Crypto Currency Revisualising the Future Economy by Mr Satish VJ

The future of the economy lies in digital currencies and block-chain technology. The undercurrent of the global economy is towards greater decentralization and transparent transactions. In this context it is the need of the hour for any scholar of Economics to have a fair understanding of crypto currency markets and how they differ from the traditional fiat currencies. Taking this urge of students and scholars, Department of Economics organised a guest  interaction  with  Mr  Sathish  VJ  on  “Crypto  Currency:  Revisualizing  the   Future Economy”, on 1st March, 2018 (Thursday).  The guest interaction took place at Sky View, 10th floor, Central block. Mr Sathish VJ is a tech-analyst and investor by passion and profession with 18 years of experience behind him.

Most of his investments are in Crypto Currencies, making him the  appropriate person to deliver the guest lecture. The guest of the day was welcomed by the Head of the Department, Dr Joshy KJ. After delving into a brief history of ‘Crypto Currencies’, Mr Satish proceeded to introduce  the phenomenon of block – chains and the various types of crypto currencies. As a natural progression he discussed the dynamics of mining functions with respect to this novel kind of currency and ultimately about the risks associated with dealing in such a currency. Despite  the sophisticated and complex technicality of the theme, the speaker endeared to our student audience by focussing on the theoretical dimensions and nuances of the idea so that all types of students will be able to comprehend and benefit from the lecture.  The audience was  made up of students of MA Applied Economics of 1st  and 2nd  years besides faculty members of the department. The speaker concluded by re-emphasising on the dangers of virtual currencies along with implications for the future in the world of finance  and investments. This was followed by a lively interaction with students in the open house session. The session was concluded by the vote of thanks, delivered by Ms Pooja Varma, Vice President, Amartya (Economics Association of Christ University).
